My last month project was the main platform engine for this nice game community
Few months since the last project post...
I was working really hard on this platform engine, which was a great learning project.
Thanks to Orange staff and Samy (Megalos), i discovered many new ways to organize AS2 classes which helped me a lot.
The engine is a tile-based engine like Mario, and is already used many times on the site. It manages graphics, sounds, and translations all along the levels.
Another freelance (asselin) made the editor that generate a xml description of levels, translations, game parameters.
The main engine features are :
- tile-based scrollable levels
- special tiles like ladders, or moving platforms
- items to collect
- a large scale of characters (you can even choose an enemy as player)
- characters can throw projectile
- IA enemies (4 levels of intelligence: move, climb up and down ladders, jump over holes, throw projectile)
The end purpose of this engine will be to be open source so that developpers can add tiles, items, characters and even add new IA behaviours or change any part of the engine code.
